History and origins
Documents attest to the existence of the settlement as early as around 1100, when the area developed around a castle linked to the da Camino family, lords of Treviso. The name Casale comes from the Latin casalis, meaning a rural settlement, testifying to the agricultural roots of the place, which in Roman times was crossed by the Via Annia. The castle was restored in 1418 on the orders of the podestà of Treviso, Guido da Canal, and later turned into a rural residence; today only the circular-based tower remains, still dominating the historic centre as the main testimony to the town's medieval past.
What to see
The symbolic monument of Casale sul Sile is the surviving tower of the old castle complex, which still marks the town's strategic position controlling the river. In the hamlet of Conscio stands a Marian sanctuary built following an apparition documented by a papal bull of Pope Innocent VIII in 1491, a destination of local devotion. Along the Sile, between Casale and the neighbouring town of Casier, lies the so-called burci boat cemetery, where wooden walkways run alongside the remains of old river vessels once used to transport goods, today a small natural monument and an evocative spot for a walk.

The town is about 15 kilometres from Treviso and just over 20 kilometres from Venice, in a convenient position for anyone wanting to visit both cities while staying in a quieter setting. It is well connected via the provincial road network and can also be explored by bicycle thanks to the nearby Sile cycle path, which links several towns in the area all the way to the lagoon.
