Zero Branco is a town of around 8,500 people in the province of Treviso, spread across a low-lying plain that takes its name from the Zero river. It is a largely residential and agricultural town, which has grown in recent decades thanks to its proximity to Treviso and the Venice metropolitan area, yet it retains a more modest and lesser-known heritage compared to the province's larger centres. Its standout feature is Villa Guidini, an elegant eighteenth-century residence surrounded by a large park, today the heart of a cultural hub that houses the town library and an auditorium. Zero Branco does not aim to be a major tourist destination, but it offers an authentic picture of the Treviso countryside, made up of farm courtyards, minor canals and the quiet typical of towns in the Veneto lowlands. Visitors who stop here find a human-scale town where the direct bond between the community and the surrounding land is still easy to feel.

The story

The story of Zero Branco

History and origins

The name Zero Branco comes from the Zero river, which flows through the area, while Branco recalls ancient land divisions of the area. Like many towns in the lower Treviso plain, the settlement developed in the medieval and modern periods around agricultural activities, aided by the presence of watercourses useful for irrigation and milling. However, the best-documented history concerns the rise of the great Venetian villas for country retreats, with noble families choosing this area to build their country residences starting in the seventeenth century.

Villa Guidini and its park

The symbolic monument of Zero Branco is Villa Guidini, built in the early eighteenth century in the Conche area. Its history begins at the end of the seventeenth century, when a member of the Dente family bought the land on which the villa would rise; the Dente family owned it until part of the nineteenth century, when the complex passed to the Guidini family, who handed down its name. The façade, of sober elegance with late Baroque details, leads into frescoed interiors decorated with stuccoes featuring floral motifs and figures of fruit and birds. The large park in front of the building is today a gathering place for the community, and the villa houses the town library and an auditorium dedicated to cultural events.

Nature and surroundings

The landscape of Zero Branco is the classic one of the lower Treviso plain: cultivated fields, rows of trees and small watercourses that punctuate the territory. Villa Guidini's park is the main public green space, with large areas for picnics and for children to play, while the surrounding countryside is well suited to walks and bike rides away from the traffic of the main roads.

Events and cultural life

Villa Guidini's park and auditorium enliven the town's cultural calendar, hosting concerts, shows and initiatives throughout the year, especially during the warmer months, when the park's outdoor spaces become the setting for musical and community events involving residents of Zero Branco and neighbouring towns.

Local life and economy

Zero Branco's economy remains tied to the agriculture of the lower plain, alongside a fabric of small craft and commercial businesses. In recent decades the municipality has seen significant residential growth, becoming a destination for those seeking a quiet setting while staying within a short distance of Treviso, without losing its rural character.

How to get there and location

Zero Branco is located a few kilometres southwest of Treviso, in a convenient position for those visiting the city and the surrounding countryside. The municipality is well connected to the provincial road network leading towards Padua and towards the neighbouring towns of the Upper and Lower Treviso area.
